WHISPERING WATERS GLENALLACHIE 10 YEAR OLD, 1ST FILL OLOROSO SHERRY
GlenAllachie has become one of the most talked-about names in Speyside, and it is getting harder to find as an independent bottling by the month. Since Billy Walker's team took over in 2017, the distillery has pulled its casks back off the open market to feed its own acclaimed official releases. An independently bottled GlenAllachie of this caliber is now a genuine rarity.
This single malt spent its entire decade in a 1st fill Oloroso sherry cask, full-term, with no ex-bourbon base and no finishing tricks. That kind of long, active sherry maturation is what gives the whisky its depth: lush dark fruit, elegant sweetness, and a gentle spine of spice.
We distilled it on November 4, 2014, and planned to bottle it on its 10-year anniversary in November 2024. After a few more tastings, we changed our minds. The whisky kept getting better, so we let it ride an extra five months and bottled it in April 2025, releasing it for the bright, warm days its character seems built for.
We also thought about cutting it with water to stretch the bottle count. The cask said no. It was perfect as it was, so it went out untouched: cask strength at 62.1%, single cask, non-chill filtered, natural color. Exactly 247 bottles.
Distillery profile, GlenAllachie
- Founded in 1967 at the foot of Ben Rinnes near Aberlour in the heart of Speyside, with renowned distillery architect William Delmé-Evans advising on its design.
- For most of its life GlenAllachie was a blending workhorse; that changed in 2017, when a consortium led by industry veteran Billy Walker acquired it and refocused it on single malt.
- Under Walker the distillery has become one of Scotland's most acclaimed and fastest-rising names, celebrated especially for its sherry-cask mastery.
- GlenAllachie now sells few if any casks and is actively buying its stock back, which makes an independent single cask like this increasingly hard to obtain.
Cask profile, 1st Fill Oloroso Sherry Cask, full-term
Ten full years in a single 1st fill Oloroso sherry cask, number 9900326. No ex-bourbon base, no late finish, just spirit and active sherry wood from day one.
First-fill Oloroso brings the deepest, most generous sherry influence a cask can give: dried figs, stewed dark fruit, chocolate, and warm baking spice, balanced by GlenAllachie's naturally rich, full-bodied distillate. The harmony between spirit and wood here is the whole point.
At 62.1% it is powerful but composed, bottled exactly as the cask delivered it.
