Whisky Makers, Not Just Bottlers

Whisky Makers, Not Just Bottlers

Little Brown Dog is a small Aberdeenshire outfit run by Andrew and Chris, named after Peedie — the little brown dog at their feet. Unlike most independents, they don't just choose casks; they vat, finish, and bottle the whisky themselves in the northeast of Scotland, hunting for casks with real character and even better stories. Everything is small batch, natural colour, and never chill filtered — with the full recipe printed for anyone who cares to read it. Honest whisky from people who'd rather tell you the truth than the legend.

THE ORIGIN

Made at Home, in Aberdeenshire

Andrew and Chris built Little Brown Dog surrounded by fields of malting barley and some of the Highlands' best distilleries — Glen Garioch sits barely ten minutes from their door. The plan was simple: do whisky their own way. Pick casks for character rather than consistency, finish and bottle them by hand, and tell people exactly what's in the glass and how it got there. They'll drive to Normandy themselves to bring back a Calvados cask, sketch a rough chicken on a barrel so they don't lose track of it, and put the whole make on the label. Named for Peedie, the little brown dog who keeps them company at the bond, the whole thing runs on curiosity and honesty in equal measure.

The Obscure Reference
Every Little Brown Dog label hides a story, the more obscure the better. The Jura nods to the KLF burning a million pounds on the island, reborn as a "fifty hound note." The unpeated Caol Ila riffs on the first Fleetwood Mac album without Peter Green — no Pete, no peat. The Bowmore comes dressed as a roast-chicken crisp packet. All hand-drawn by their designer Alex, and all worth a second look.
Peedie in the Barley
The whole brand is named for Peedie, the little brown dog herself. You'll find her tucked into the barley field on the Aberdeenshire Single Malt label, below the silhouette of Bennachie — a small signature for an outfit that takes its whisky seriously and itself a good deal less so. A "scan yer dram" QR on every bottle opens the full recipe, cask by cask.
