THE PARK LIFE DUO, BOURBON VS SHERRY
Uncharted were offered two casks from one of the great distilleries of the Highland region on the usual condition: you can have the whisky, you cannot use the name. So they called the series Park Life and, in their words, this is not from Islay. Or Mull. Or Skye. Or Jura. Or Arran. The two casks were bottled together in August 2025 as deliberate sister bottlings, one from refill bourbon at 20 years, one from refill sherry at 22, both brought to 55%.
Refill wood on both sides is the point. Neither cask shouts. Both are, as Uncharted put it, distillery character forward, not wood forward, which is exactly what you want when the distillery is the reason you bought the bottle. Sold as a set, 10% cheaper than the two bottles on their own. Five sets exist.
Bottle one: Park Life 20 Year, Refill Bourbon (UC053)
- Distilled October 2004, bottled August 2025. Full maturation in one refill ex-bourbon cask. 60 bottles for the USA.
- 55.0%, natural colour, non-chill filtered.
- Uncharted's notes: fragrant bay leaf and fresh lemon zest with oak and a grounding earthiness. Golden syrup, buttery popcorn and warm nutmeg, then soft florals, heather and a touch of spice. A gentle wisp of smoke lingers with smooth caramel sweetness and a salty swish.
Bottle two: Park Life 22 Year, Refill Sherry (UC052)
- Distilled July 2003, bottled August 2025. Full maturation in one refill ex-sherry cask. 60 bottles for the USA.
- 55.0%, natural colour, non-chill filtered.
- Uncharted's notes: caramel sweetness with a rare touch of mint and eucalyptus. A bold yet balanced profile of herbals, layered with creamy vanilla and a super subtle smoke suggestion. A smoky-sweet finale that lingers with soft herbal goodness and caramel.
Why a set
These two were released as a pair by the bottler and they read as a pair in the glass: the same heather, the same light smoke, the same salty edge, wearing two different coats. Bourbon wood keeps the 20 bright, citric and buttery. Sherry wood turns the 22 herbal, minty and darker in the caramel. Twenty-plus years in refill casks means the spirit, not the wood, is doing the talking in both.
