BLACKADDER STATEMENT EDITION LEDAIG 25 YEAR OLD
A 25 year old single cask Ledaig, the peated production at Tobermory on the Isle of Mull. Distilled March 24, 1997 and bottled December 2022 from hogshead #800034 at a full 61.5% cask strength. 208 bottles total.
Aged peated whisky from an Island distillery at full strength, in a Statement Edition single cask format, is an increasingly rare combination. Most aged peated stock gets diverted into core ranges or blends. This one was held back for a single cask bottling.
About Blackadder
Founded 1995 by Robin Tucek, Blackadder is run today as a family operation with daughter Hannah and son Michael. Built on a single conviction: the cask is king. No chill filtration, no added colour, no compromise.
The Statement Edition series represents Blackadder's flagship releases, casks chosen as definitive examples of a distillery or style. Reserved for liquid the family considers the highest expressions of their independent bottling philosophy.
Distillery profile
- Ledaig is the peated production at Tobermory distillery on the Isle of Mull, off Scotland's west coast.
- Tobermory itself produces unpeated spirit. The same stills run peated production in alternating periods, bottled separately under the Ledaig name.
- The distillery has had a turbulent history of closures and reopenings since 1798, but production has been continuous since 1993.
- Coastal dunnage maturation, exposed to salt air from the Sound of Mull, gives Ledaig its maritime backbone. A different smoke character than the heavier medicinal phenolics of Islay.
Cask profile
A single hogshead, #800034, distilled March 24, 1997 and bottled December 2022 at 25 years. Hogsheads hold roughly 250 litres and are the workhorse cask of Scottish maturation, large enough for slow integration with the spirit and small enough to drive year-over-year evolution.
Bottled at 61.5% cask strength, non-chill filtered, natural colour. 208 bottles total.
Long-aged peated whisky at full strength is increasingly rare on the market. Most stock at this age and concentration is diverted into core ranges or blends. This one was held back.
On Tasting Notes
You will not find Blackadder's tasting notes here. By design.
Blackadder shares every technical detail a curious drinker could ask for: distillery, cask number, distillation date, bottling date, ABV, outturn. Everything that makes the liquid what it is. What they leave to you is the experience of drinking it.
Tasting notes shape expectation. They tell you what you should find before you find it. Blackadder's position is that the spirit in your glass should speak for itself, and what you find there belongs to you. Pour it neat. Add a few drops of water if it asks for it. Take your time. The cask did.
