Origin Ireland Distillery Undisclosed Age No age statement ABV 57.5% Cask Ex-Monymusk Jamaican Rum Outturn 199 bottles

Blackadder turned thirty in 2025 and marked it with something the Glasgow bottler had never done: an Irish single malt. One cask, reference BA DROP 2025-01, previously filled with Monymusk Jamaican rum, bottled at 57.5% cask strength with no added colour and no chill filtration. 199 bottles, green label, shamrocks and all.

The distillery is not named and the whisky carries no age statement, which is how Blackadder likes it when the cask is the story. Monymusk is the Clarendon distillery's heavy, estery pot-still rum, and its casks hand over tropical fruit, molasses and funk. On an unpeated Irish malt that makes for a bright, fruity, high-strength dram with a rum-cask twist. Thirty bottles for the United States.

About Blackadder

Blackadder International was founded in 1995 by Robin Tucek and remains a family operation, run with his daughter Hannah and son Michael. The house philosophy has never changed: the cask is king. Blackadder selects individual casks on their own merits, bottles at natural strength, and never chill filters or adds colour.

A Drop of the Irish is the thirtieth anniversary bottling, and the first Irish whiskey to wear the Blackadder label.

The whiskey

  • Irish single malt: malted barley only, from one distillery, which Blackadder has chosen not to name.
  • No age statement, by design. The cask reference, BA DROP 2025-01, is the only number on the label besides the strength and the outturn.
  • Bottled in 2025, Blackadder's thirtieth year, at full cask strength.
  • Product of Ireland, bottled by Blackadder International in Glasgow.

Cask profile, ex-Monymusk rum

Monymusk is the heavier of the two rum marques from Clarendon Distillers in Jamaica, made in pot stills and known for high esters: overripe banana, pineapple, molasses, the funk Jamaican rum is famous for.

A cask that held it gives whisky a tropical, sweet, slightly savoury edge. Irish malt is a light, clean spirit, so the rum wood is doing the talking here, at 57.5%.

No added colour, no chill filtration. 199 bottles, 30 for The Whiskey Lab.

On Tasting Notes

You will not find tasting notes here. By design.

The Whiskey Lab publishes every technical detail a curious drinker could ask for: distillery, cask, distillation date, ABV, outturn. Everything that makes the liquid what it is. What we leave to you is the experience of drinking it.

Tasting notes shape expectation. They tell you what you should find before you find it. Our position is that the spirit in your glass should speak for itself, and what you find there belongs to you. Pour it neat. Add a few drops of water if it asks for it. Take your time. The cask did.
