For two years The Whiskey Lab imported independent bottlers. In 2026 we started working with distilleries directly, and these are the first two casks we chose ourselves, with our name printed on the label beside the distillery's. One from the northernmost distillery on the Scottish mainland, the only veteran-owned distillery in Scotland. One from the only single estate distillery in the country, on the East Coast for the first time.
Both are single casks at full cask strength. Both were tasted blind against their siblings before we said yes. Sold as a pair at the pre-order price of each bottle, so you pay exactly what the two cost on their own and get the story in one box.
Bottle one: Wolfburn 12 Year, Ex-Islay Quarter Cask
- Distilled 2014 in Thurso, Caithness. Matured its whole life in one ex-Islay quarter cask. Not peated, and it does not taste peated.
- Cask strength, natural colour, non-chill filtered. 130 bottles.
- Twelve years in a small cask that once held Islay whisky gave it the depth of a much older spirit with none of the smoke. The first Wolfburn bottling to carry The Whiskey Lab's name.
Bottle two: Ballindalloch 2016, 10 Year, 1st Fill Bourbon Barrel
- Distilled July 7, 2016, bottled September 1, 2026 from barrel No. 367. Barley grown, distilled and matured on the Ballindalloch estate.
- 62.0% cask strength, natural colour, non-chill filtered. Exclusively for the USA.
- Three samples from three casks; every group that tasted them blind picked this one. The oldest single cask Ballindalloch has sent to America and the only one matured entirely in first fill bourbon.
Why a set
These two bottles are the same idea from opposite ends of Scotland: a small distillery, a single cask, and an importer who tasted the options and put its name on the one it believed in. Highland coast against Speyside estate, second-hand Islay oak against fresh bourbon oak, and The Whiskey Lab on both labels.
One set contains one 700ml bottle of each release. Both arrive on the November 2026 import; sets ship the week they land.
