"Ruby Tuesday" – Uncharted Whisky Co. Girvan 28-Year Single Grain Scotch Whisky (Tawny Port Cask)

A Singular Whisky Journey: 28 Years of Exceptional Maturation

Ruby Tuesday is a brilliantly unique 28-year-old single grain whisky from Girvan Distillery, beautifully matured in an extraordinary tawny port cask—one that previously held port for over six decades! Located on Scotland’s picturesque Ayrshire coast, Girvan is renowned for producing whiskies of exceptional purity, elegance, and complexity, and Ruby Tuesday magnificently showcases this legacy.

Initially matured in classic ex-bourbon wood, this whisky was later re-racked into a stunningly rare tawny port butt, handcrafted from thick, nearly 4cm oak staves in the traditional cooperage style—an artistry almost lost today. The six decades of rich port maturation dramatically transformed the spirit, imparting a deep garnet hue, vibrant aroma, and luxurious complexity.

Why Girvan’s Spirit is Special

  • Girvan Distillery, situated alongside the iconic Ailsa Bay, is known for its impeccably clean and creamy single grain whiskies. Produced using column stills for maximum purity, Girvan’s spirit beautifully carries cask influence, effortlessly balancing its innate creamy sweetness with complex cask-derived flavors.

Exceptional Cask Influence

  • The impact of this historic port butt is simply remarkable. Over 60 years of holding aged tawny port created a cask environment brimming with rich, fruity depth and warmth. The whisky absorbed this remarkable legacy, emerging as a deeply flavorful, luxuriously textured, and vibrantly colored expression—a whisky experience like no other.

Tasting Notes

Nose

Red berries and stewed fruit accompany a deep woody spice. Grassy notes emerge with a few drops of water.

Palate

Sweeter and richer than expected. The dram washes round the mouth coating it like syrup, The creamy nature of single grain persists despite the unctuous overtones of tawny port, the pepper imparted by European oak and mature leathery chocolate.

Finish

The bright zing mellows to clootie dumpling sweetness which in turn melts into the creaminess of single grain and leaving a clove infused warmth.
