Masterfully Matured: Glaschu Spirits Co. Ardnamurchan (Peated) 1st Fill Oloroso Matured
Considered one of the most remote distilleries in Scotland, Ardnamurchan Distillery takes its name from the Highland peninsula it inhabits. Opened in 2014 by independent bottler Adelphi, this modern distillery blends cutting-edge sustainability with traditional craftsmanship to produce a rich, coastal single malt with remarkable depth and complexity.
For the artwork on this release, we’ve featured John Cobb's Crusader - a jet powered racing boat, built in 1949. We've shown the Crusader speeding towards the bay of Ardnamurchan peninsula, with the distillery in view.
Distinctive Features of Distillation:
- Rare and Exquisite: Due to the young age of the distillery, single cask independent bottlings of this spirit are hard to find. This 5 year old example is particularly rare - it's Ardnamurchan's peated expression, fully matured in a first fill Oloroso sherry hogshead.
- Exceptional Cask Influence: Finished in a Madeira wine cask after primary maturation. Madeira contributes lifted sweetness without heaviness. Expect notes that suggest candied orange peel, apricot tart, sultana, almond brittle, and toffee, with a line of warm baking spice and polished oak. The finish lengthens into citrus marmalade and roasted nuts while the Tomatin orchard fruit remains clear for balance and freshness. Single cask means every bottle reflects this exact cask’s character.
Tasting Notes:
Nose
Opens with the richness of roasted coffee beans and tart cherry juice, layered over earthy tones reminiscent of worn leather in a well-loved pub.
Palate
Deeply spiced fruitcake and molasses lead into dark chocolate and ripe Medjool dates, balanced by a subtle zest of blood orange that brightens the richness.
Finish
Long, warming, and assertive, with smoky undertones and lingering notes of spiced embers that fade gracefully.
