BLACKADDER RAW CASK BUNDLE: SHIZUOKA + TRINIDAD RUM
Two Raw Cask releases from Blackadder. Two countries, two completely different spirits, one shared philosophy: no chill filtration, no added colour, cask sediment retained. As raw and as little filtered as is legally possible.
The Shizuoka Japanese single malt is available exclusively in this bundle. It cannot be purchased on its own. The Trinidad Rum is also available separately at $110.
About Blackadder
Founded 1995 by Robin Tucek, Blackadder is run today as a family operation with daughter Hannah and son Michael. Built on a single conviction: the cask is king. No chill filtration, no added colour, no compromise.
The Raw Cask series goes a step further. Every bottle is as raw and as little filtered as is legally possible, with the natural sediment and oils of the cask left in. Blackadder selects casks from distilleries across Scotland and beyond when the liquid warrants it.
Shizuoka Pot Still W · 5 Year Old
A 5 year old single cask Japanese single malt from Shizuoka Distillery, distilled June 28, 2018 from Pot Still W, the only wood-fired direct-heat pot still in production anywhere in the world. Bottled August 2023 from bourbon barrel #740 at 63.8% cask strength. 223 bottles total.
Distillery profile
- Shizuoka Distillery was founded by Taiko Nakamura through his company Gaia Flow, with production starting in 2016. The distillery sits in the foothills of Mt. Fuji.
- Runs on a singular production philosophy: regional ingredients, regional energy, and direct-fire distillation.
- Operates two pot stills. Pot Still W is the wood-fired one, the only such still in production anywhere in the world today. Pot Still K, the second still, was recovered from the closed Karuizawa distillery and runs in parallel.
- Direct fire under the wash still produces a heavier, more textured spirit profile than steam-heated stills.
Cask profile
A single bourbon barrel, #740, distilled June 28, 2018 from Pot Still W using 100% imported pilsen malt from Germany. Bottled August 2023 after 5 years of maturation. 223 bottles total.
Bottled at 63.8% cask strength in the Raw Cask format. The cask sediment, natural oils, and fats normally filtered out before bottling are left in. You may see particulate. That is expected.
At 5 years the spirit is young, but the cask was active. Raw Cask preserves everything.

Trinidad Rum · 14 Year Old
A 14 year old single cask Trinidad rum, bottled by Blackadder in their Raw Cask series. Raw Cask means the natural sediment, oils, and fats normally filtered out before bottling are left in. What you get is the cask in the bottle, complete.
Bottled August 2023 at 65.5% cask strength. No chill filtration, no added colour.
Distillery profile
- Trinidad is one of the great historic rum-producing islands of the Caribbean, with a continuous distilling tradition reaching back to the 1700s.
- Most Trinidad rum is produced on continuous column stills, yielding a cleaner, lighter style than the heavy pot still rums of Jamaica.
- The tropical climate accelerates maturation. 14 years in Trinidad is the rough equivalent of several decades of Scottish maturation, with much higher annual evaporation loss.
- What ages in the tropics emerges intensely concentrated, with deep oak, dried tropical fruit, and dark sugar character.
Cask profile
A single cask Trinidad rum at 14 years of tropical maturation, bottled at 65.5% cask strength in the Raw Cask format. The cask sediment, natural oils, and fats normally filtered out before bottling are left in.
This is the spirit as it came out of the cask, without cosmetic intervention. You may see particulate. That is expected. Raw Cask is as raw and as little filtered as is legally possible.
Non-chill filtered, natural colour. A few drops of water will open it up if you want, but the full picture is in the bottle as poured.

On Tasting Notes
You will not find Blackadder's tasting notes here. By design.
Blackadder shares every technical detail a curious drinker could ask for: distillery, cask number, distillation date, bottling date, ABV, outturn. Everything that makes the liquid what it is. What they leave to you is the experience of drinking it.
Tasting notes shape expectation. They tell you what you should find before you find it. Blackadder's position is that the spirit in your glass should speak for itself, and what you find there belongs to you. Pour it neat. Add a few drops of water if it asks for it. Take your time. The cask did.
