FINN THOMSON WHISKY LONGMORN 34 YEAR OLD, XIMENEZ SPINOLA PX SHERRY
About Finn Thomson Whisky
Finn Thomson is the ninth generation of Scotland's oldest whisky family. The Thomson name traces back to the 1770s through Perthshire, where Peter Thomson Ltd built the beloved Beneagles blended whisky using casks from Longmorn, Clynelish, North British, and other lesser-known workhorses.
Finn Thomson Whisky continues that tradition as an independent single cask bottler. Every release is hand-selected, bottled at cask strength, non-chill filtered, with natural colour. Eye on the past. Vision for the future.
Thirty-four years in a combination of PX sherry and ex-bourbon. A Longmorn distilled in 1991 and bottled in 2025, from the Finn Thomson Whisky Rare Range.
Distilled April 1991. Bottled August 2025. Cask strength 53.7%, non-chill filtered, natural colour. 188 bottles. Imported exclusively by The Whiskey Lab.
Distillery profile, Longmorn
- Founded in 1893 in Elgin, Speyside. Longmorn has long been considered one of the finest Speyside distilleries.
- Revered by blenders for its rich, fruit-forward character. The Chivas family once said Longmorn was central to their blends.
- The Thomson family's Beneagles blend relied on Longmorn as a cornerstone ingredient, alongside North British grain and Macallan malt.
- Single cask Longmorn at 34 years of age is exceptionally rare. The liquid speaks for itself.
The story of this cask
It is now 3 years since I was able to relaunch the family business and begin a new chapter of the Thomson whisky story.
I will always remember the launch event where we tasted all 8 of our inaugural releases, but one of the most memorable drams was actually provided by my grandfather. As a personal toast, Grandad Michael cracked open one of his original bottles of Beneagles blended whisky. With twinkling eyes, he let us in on some of the key components of the closely-guarded recipe. Along with North British grain and Macallan malt, a crucial ingredient was a lesser-known Speyside distillery... Longmorn.
According to my grandfather, Longmorn's reliable fruitiness was central to the success of Beneagles, and for that reason, our collection treasures a number of Longmorn casks.
This particular cask is a perfect example of what makes Longmorn so special. Thirty-four years of ageing in a combination of PX sherry and an ex-bourbon cask have created a perfect harmony of flavours.
