Glen Moray has sat on the banks of the River Lossie in Elgin since 1830, though it spent its first decades as the Elgin West Brewery before turning to whisky in 1897. In the modern era it has quietly become one of Scotland's great cask experimenters, running wine, port and dessert-wine maturations long before "finishing" was fashionable. As Dram Mor's label puts it, this is a well-balanced spirit that "marries perfectly with oak of all kinds."
This cask proves the point: an 11 year old Glen Moray finished in a first fill Madeira hogshead, the fortified island wine layering toasted nuts, dried fruit and a tangy sweetness over the distillery's clean, honeyed core. Single cask #155, bottled at a cask strength of 56.8%, the strongest of this Dram Mor import, non-chill filtered, natural colour, 280 bottles worldwide. About Dram Mor
Dram Mor (Gaelic for "big dram") is the independent bottler founded in 2019 by husband and wife team Kenny and Viktorija Macdonald in Dumbarton, Scotland, where Kenny's grandfather was head foreman at Hiram Walker's Dumbarton distillery. What began as an export agency for Scottish brands became a family of single cask bottlers with one simple rule: choose individual casks that showcase the best of every whisky, and bottle them at cask strength, non-chill filtered, at natural colour. Their casks now reach some 25 countries, Michelin-starred restaurants included. This is Dram Mor's first release with The Whiskey Lab.

The cask
Madeira is the fortified wine of a subtropical Portuguese island, famously heated and oxidised as it ages until it turns nutty, caramelised and tangy. The casks that season it are prized for exactly that profile.
As a first fill Madeira hogshead, this cask gave the Glen Moray its full dose: toffee, roasted nuts, dried fruit and a bright, tangy acidity that keeps the sweetness lively instead of cloying.
At 56.8% this is the punchiest bottling of the range, and with only 30 bottles landing in the US through The Whiskey Lab, the scarcest on this side of the Atlantic.
