Blackadder Aurantia Dutch Gin
Aurantia is Blackadder's gin: distilled in the Netherlands, the historic home of juniper spirit, and bottled at a purposeful 44% ABV. The name comes from Aurantium, the citrus genus that includes the bitter orange, and citrus is the thread that runs through the recipe alongside the juniper backbone every gin is built on. It is presented the Blackadder way: no chill filtration and no cosmetic processing between still and bottle.
Most gin on the shelf is engineered for smoothness at 40% and filtered until nothing sticks out. Aurantia takes the opposite position. The higher strength keeps the botanicals loud, and skipping chill filtration keeps the heavier citrus and juniper oils in the liquid, the same oils most producers strip out for clarity. It is a purist's gin from a bottler that applies whisky discipline to everything it releases.
About Blackadder
Blackadder International was founded in 1995 by Robin Tucek and remains a family operation, with his daughter Hannah and son Michael working alongside him. Their guiding principle is simple: the cask is king. Nothing is chill filtered, nothing is coloured, and nothing is dressed up between the producer and your glass.
Blackadder is best known as a Scottish independent whisky bottler, but the same philosophy extends to a small stable of other spirits: rums, and this gin, distilled in the Netherlands to Blackadder's specification. Aurantia gets the same treatment as their single casks: honest strength, minimal intervention, and a label that tells you what is in the bottle.
Distillation profile
- Distilled in the Netherlands, where genever, the ancestor of all gin, was born. Dutch distillers have been working with juniper spirit for centuries.
- Produced for Blackadder to their specification, under the same minimal-intervention rules they apply to their whisky bottlings.
- Named for the Aurantium citrus genus: the recipe is citrus-led, with lemon prominent, over a classic juniper base. Blackadder does not publish a full botanical bill, and we will not invent one.

Recipe & strength
Bottled at 44% ABV, above the standard 40% most gins settle at. Strength matters in gin: alcohol carries botanical oils, and the extra proof keeps the citrus and juniper vivid instead of diluted, whether you drink it neat, over ice, or lengthened with tonic.
Because it skips chill filtration, Aurantia may turn lightly hazy with ice or cold storage. That haze is botanical oil, not a flaw. It is the part of the gin most producers remove so the liquid photographs well.
Blackadder describes it as ideal for purists and a natural partner for a gin and tonic. It is built for classic serves: a proper G&T, a martini, or simply cold and neat.
